Our Story

Chicken of the Woods started as four friends trying to answer one small question at dinner: “Why does eating more plants so often feel less fun than eating meat?”  Between us there was a cook, a nature nerd, a numbers brain and a storyteller, all obsessed with food, the planet, and the bright orange “chicken of the woods” mushroom that really can taste a lot like chicken when you cook it right

Our Story

Creating our Wholesome Food 

At first it was just experiments in tiny kitchens and weekend forest walks: crisping mushroom “nuggets” in cast‑iron pans, piling them on top of pasta, loading them into sandwiches for friends who swore they would “never go vegan”. Those dinners showed that mushrooms could do more than play a side role, they could be the star of the plate, giving the same juicy, savoury bite people love in meat while using fewer resources and fitting naturally into plant‑rich diets

The more that was learned about how powerful fungi can be as next‑generation meat analogues, the more it felt wrong to keep this as a private joke between friends. Big brands were proving that oats and soy could become milk and burgers; Chicken of the Woods was born from the belief that mushrooms deserve that same stage, especially for people who want comfort food first and sustainability as a bonus, not a lecture.
Today, Chicken of the Woods is turning that story into products anyone can cook on a Tuesday night: mushroom‑powered pieces, bites and fillings that slide into the dishes you already make. The mission is simple – make it as easy and delicious as possible to swap a little less meat and a little more forest onto the plate, one familiar, mushroomy bite at a time.
